Ubuntu Now Supports Local AI Models via Snap Packages

🔹The story in brief: Canonical, the developer of Ubuntu, has announced the availability of ready-made AI models in the form of Snap packages such as: 🧠 DeepSeek-R1 and Qwen2.5VL

These are not ordinary applications, Rather, they are optimized packages that are designed to run as efficiently as possible on your device, whether it is Intel or ARM.

🔥 What's special is that you can run these models locally on your device (Locally). Without the need for any cloud services or APIs. In other words, you can benefit from AI directly from your device, without a connection to any external server 👏

👨‍💻 Previously, it required complex settings, Manual tuning of dependencies and libraries, Sometimes you had to reduce the size of the model (quantization) to make it work efficiently. As for now? All you have to do is open Terminal and type the following command:

snap install deepseek-r1 --beta

The system will download the model and run it with the best possible performance 💪

What's more beautiful than that? Canonical has made the framework used to create these packages open source 🔓, This allows any developer to create custom Snap packages for any AI model they desire.

This step actually opens the door wide to running artificial intelligence models locally. Without the need for cloud services or external resources 🚀

💬 Question for discussion: Do you think this step will change the future of the use of artificial intelligence? Do you think running models locally will be the next trend? 🤔👇
