Lesson 3: The Hook & Scripting: Crafting Engaging Reels using AI
In short-form video, the first 1-3 seconds (the 'Hook') determine success. AI is fantastic at optimizing this crucial element.
3.1 Anatomy of a Viral Reel Script
Every effective reel follows a similar structure:
- The Hook (1-3 seconds): A statement or visual that stops the scroll.
- The Context/Problem (4-10 seconds): Briefly explain the pain point or topic.
- The Solution/Value (10-40 seconds): Deliver the core educational or entertaining content.
- The Call to Action (CTA) (Final seconds): Tell the viewer what to do next (like, share, follow).
3.2 Prompt Engineering for Short-Form Content
We need to prompt AI to think like a short-form content creator—concise, dramatic, and fast-paced.
Poor Prompt Example: “Write about five reasons to learn Python.”
Effective Prompt Template:
Act as a professional TikTok scriptwriter. Generate a 45-second script about [TOPIC]. The tone should be [TONE, e.g., energetic and controversial].
Requirements:
- The script must contain a shocking question as the hook in the first line.
- Total word count must be under 120 words.
- Include a simple Call to Action at the end ('Follow for more AI tricks').
TOPIC: Why most people fail at using free AI tools.
3.3 Generating Multiple Hooks
Once you have your core script, ask the AI to generate 5 variations of the hook, categorized by style (e.g., 'Controversial Hook,' 'Benefit Hook,' 'Question Hook'). This allows you to A/B test the opening of your reel for maximum retention.
