Translating Skills into Value
Your resume must show proof of practical application, especially when starting without professional experience.
Key Resume Sections
- Skills Section: List specific tools and technologies (e.g., Nmap, Metasploit, Wireshark, Python/Bash, Kali Linux, VirtualBox, SIEM concepts).
- Projects/Labs (Critical): Detail your work. Instead of saying 'Took a course on hacking,' say: 'Developed a segregated virtual environment using VirtualBox to safely practice network enumeration and exploitation against the Metasploitable target, leveraging Nmap and Metasploit to achieve RCE.'
- CTF Achievements: Mention participation in platforms like Hack The Box or TryHackMe to demonstrate applied learning.
- Relevant Education/Certifications: List completed training and planned certifications (Sec+).
Focus on Impact: Describe what you did, how you did it, and the outcome (e.g., 'Identified and remediated 5 critical vulnerabilities in the simulated network').
