Defining Cyber Security and Its Importance

Cyber Security Mastery: From Zero to Hero

Defining Cyber Security

Cyber security is the practice of protecting systems, networks, and programs from digital attacks. These cyberattacks are usually aimed at accessing, changing, or destroying sensitive information; extorting money from users; or interrupting normal business processes.

Why is it Important?

In the modern world, everything is interconnected. A successful cyberattack can lead to:

  • Financial Loss: Direct costs from breaches, regulatory fines (GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Reputational Damage: Loss of customer trust.
  • Operational Disruption: Systems shutting down (e.g., ransomware).
  • National Security Risks: Attacks on critical infrastructure.

Cyber security is no longer just an IT issue; it is a fundamental business risk.
