AWS Global Infrastructure
AWS serves millions of customers worldwide using a massive global footprint.
Key Components:
- Regions: Physical locations around the world where AWS clusters data centers. Each region is independent.
- Availability Zones (AZs): One or more discrete data centers with redundant power, networking, and connectivity in an AWS Region.
- Edge Locations: Endpoints for AWS which are used for caching content (CloudFront).
Choosing a Region:
When picking a region, consider:
- Compliance: Data residency requirements.
- Proximity: Reduce latency for users.
- Available Services: Not all services are in all regions.
- Pricing: Costs vary by region.
