Launching the Installation

  1. Select your VM and click 'Start'.
  2. The VM will boot from the ISO. You will see a prompt to 'Try Ubuntu' or 'Install Ubuntu'. Choose Install Ubuntu.

Installation Settings:

  • Keyboard Layout: Choose your appropriate layout.
  • Updates and Other Software: Select 'Normal installation' and check 'Download updates while installing Ubuntu'.
  • Installation Type: CRITICAL STEP. Because we are inside a Virtual Machine, it is safe to select 'Erase disk and install Ubuntu'. The installer will only affect the virtual 40GB disk we created, not your host computer's hard drive.
  • Location: Set your timezone.
  • User Creation: Create your user account (Name, Username, Password). Remember your username and password! This will be your primary administrative user.

The installation process will proceed, copying files and installing software. This usually takes 10-30 minutes.
