Complex Numbers in QC

Quantum Computing Basics for Developers

Why Complex Numbers?

Quantum mechanics uses complex numbers to describe the 'phase' of a qubit. A complex number has a real part and an imaginary part ($a + bi$).

Amplitudes

The probability of a result is the square of the absolute value of the complex amplitude: $P(0) = |α|^2$

Phase is invisible during measurement but critical during computation for interference.
